The Salvation Army’s food bank in Weyburn is running low on supplies with summer approaching fast, and is planning for a one-day food blitz on June 26 to help replenish those shelves.
The food bank just received a donation on Saturday from the Weyburn Comp’s Junior Achievement company, Bubble Up, which will go towards helping to restock supplies.
Co-presidents Risa Burdan and Jamie Borshowa, along with chief financial officer Rohan Haupstein, presented a cheque for $553.81, which was 10 per cent of the student company’s profits this semester.
Shannon Fodchuk, family services assistant for the Salvation Army, said they could use most anything that is non-perishable.
This includes pasta and pasta sauces, canned tomatoes, canned fruit, beans (of any kind), and cereals.
The plan is for a one-day dropoff campaign for the food bank on Saturday, June 26.
This summer the Salvation Army will be providing lunches for children throughout July and August, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This will run from July 5 to Aug. 27, and will be held at the parking lot of Souris School on South Hill.
