Weyburn police arrest man on a warrant, new offences

WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service had an average week related to calls for service. The WPS responded to 68 calls for service during the week of July 26 to August 1, with 24 calls being of a criminal nature, 14 traffic and bylaw related, and 29 “other” calls for service.

A few incidents of note were:

• Members of WPS conducted a traffic stop on Sims Avenue on July 27 at 12:33 a.m., where it was determined the driver of the vehicle was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code. The driver was arrested for driving prohibited as well as possession of property obtained by crime, failure to comply with probation and a warrant for arrest from Regina Police Service. The adult male was released on an appearance notice for Weyburn Court in September.

• Members attended to a complainant on July 27 at 7 p.m., indicating two individuals had been knocking on her door several times as well as her garage door. Upon arriving the police members were able to ascertain the two individuals were selling fish and had a valid City of Weyburn business license. Police want to remind the community that anyone selling or carrying on business within the City of Weyburn requires a business license issued by the City of Weyburn. Members of the public are allowed to request anyone selling door to door produce their business license.

• Members of the WPS located a known individual who was wanted for several theft files by the police service Aug. 1 at 9:16 p.m. The adult male was arrested and found to be in possession of methamphetamine. He was subsequently charged for several theft and breach offences. He was remanded into custody.
