The Weyburn Police Service responded to 95 calls for service during the week of September 20 to 26, resulting in a total of eight charges. Of the eight charges, four were under the Criminal Code of Canada, and four under the Traffic Safety Act.
Friday evening saw lots of bright lights as the Weyburn Police Service conducted a high-visibility checkstop with over 300 vehicles being checked for impaired driving and other traffic violations. The overall result was very encouraging as no impaired charges resulted and only one driver was issued a traffic ticket.
During the week, one individual failed to appear in court as required and was charged accordingly. Also during the week, officers encountered three individuals that were found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest. The individuals were arrested and released with upcoming court dates as directed by the agency holding each warrant.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute resulting in an adult male being charged with assault as well as two counts of failing to comply with a release order. Upon locating the male, officers took him into custody and transported him to the Weyburn General Hospital where he was examined by medical personnel as there was an expressed concern for his wellbeing. The male was released from WGH but held in custody with an upcoming court date.
One motorist received a three-day driver’s license suspension and had their vehicle impounded for the same amount of time following a traffic stop in which the driver was tested for sobriety.
Officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles with no reported injuries. Both vehicles required towing from the scene due to the severity of the damage. Charges are pending.
A request to remove an unwanted person resulted in police attendance to assist the homeowner. Officers were able to assist removing the individual without incident.
