Estevan minor ball teams had a busy long weekend

Estevan U13 AAA Brewers beat Weyburn three times; Southeast U18 AAA Twins competed at a provincial tournament

Quintin Sliva pitched a complete game shutout for the U13 AAA Brewers on Monday.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan TS&M U13 Brewers AAA baseball team won three times in five days against the Weyburn Beavers.

Estevan went into Weyburn on Thursday and defeated the Beavers 4-0. Broden Henry started on the mound and went five innings, allowing just two hits. Kyson Dangstorp came in to pitch the last two innings. Dangstorp also collected a hit and a run batted in (RBI) at the plate.

On Monday, the Brewers hosted the Beavers for a doubleheader. The Brewers won 10-4 in the opening game. Henry again started for the Brewers, going six innings and striking out five while allowing two hits and a run. Aidan Turner led the offence with two hits, including a solo home run. Logan Kolenz also chipped in with two hits and an RBI.

In the second game the Brewers won 15-0 and the mercy rule was invoked after five innings. Quintin Sliva pitched a complete game on the mound, striking out two and allowing two hits. Nathan Gardiner led the charge with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Aidan Turner also had a homer and three RBIs.

The Southeast A’s, who play out of Alameda, split games that they played in Yorkton against the Cardinals on Monday, losing 16-11 and recovering to win 12-8.

The A’s trailed 6-1 after the first inning and 12-7 after three, but rallied with four in the fourth to make it interesting. Yorkton pulled away with four runs late.

Hayden Terrett had four hits in the loss, while Draven Naviaux had two hits, including a home run, to go with four RBIs, and Tyson Hardy also had a home run among his three this.

In the second game, the A’s were down 5-2 after two innings, but the difference was five runs in the fifth to take the lead. Chase Himmelspach had three hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Daxtyn Brown provided 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The South East U18 AAA Twins competed at the Sask. Selects tournament on the weekend.

The Twins opened with a 7-2 loss to the Regina Athletics. The Twins led 2-1 midway through the fourth inning, but then the Red Sox scored three in the fourth and three more in the sixth.

The second game saw the Twins beat the Swift Current 57s 9-5 on the strength of three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. Sutter Balog had two runs and three RBIs for the Twins, who enjoyed strong production from the bottom of the batting order.

Starter Callum Hollinger allowed just one unearned run in four innings.

Their next game was a 5-4 loss to the Saskatoon Diamondbacks – a game that was called after five innings due to a time limit.

Nathan Yunick had a run, an RBI and two hits. Mason Fichter allowed four runs, two unearned, in four innings.

Saskatoon went on to win the tournament.

The final game was a 10-4 win over the East Central Red Sox. The Twins scored five in the sixth to break open a 5-5 tie. Callum Hollinger had two hits, including a home run, three runs and three RBIs, and Carter Beck had two runs, three hits and three RBIs.

The Estevan U18 AA Brewers went 1-2 on the weekend, winning 6-5 at home against the Moose Jaw Canucks on Saturday but losing 8-2 and 8-5 to the host Regina Pacers on Monday.

Matty Fornwald and Keon Turner each had a run, a hit and an RBI against Moose Jaw.

Jayden Kuchinka, Logan Skuce and Koen Turner combined for the pitching victory.

Tanyan Strudwick had two hits and an RBI in the first loss to Regina.

Fornwald allowed one run in two innings of relief.

Jayden Kuchinka had three hits in the second game, and Fornwald had three RBIs.

Strudwick started on the mound and allowed six runs, but only one earned, in 5 1/3 innings.
