Estevan U18 AA Bruins win two of three games

Estevan's U18, U15 and U13 AA hockey teams were all in action on the weekend.

It was another busy weekend for Estevan AA hockey teams.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins went 2-1 in games they played over a five-day span last week.

Estevan opened with a 3-2 victory over the host Regina Rangers last Wednesday. Estevan trailed 2-0 until late in the second period, when Keagon Patton scored with 20 seconds to play in the middle frame.

Hayden Terrett's short-handed goal early in the third tied the game, and Chase Robertson notched what proved to be the game winner on a power play midway through the period.

Ty Fehrenbach stopped 19 of 21 shots he faced for Estevan.

Estevan then went into Moose Jaw on the weekend for a pair of games with the Warriors. The first game was a 6-1 win on Saturday night. Kade Phillips and Tayson Dietze scored in the opening 5 1/2 minutes of the first period for a 2-0 advantage, and Dietze added his second of the game before the period was finished.

Moose Jaw scored in the third to make it a 3-1 game, but then Carter Hirsch scored twice in a 4:14 span and Dietze added his third of the game to round out the scoring.

Fehrenbach made 26 saves in the win.

The following day, the Bruins suffered their first loss of the season in a 5-3 decision. Phillips and Ryker Mathison scored in the first period to give the Bruins a 2-0 edge. Moose Jaw scored once before the period was out and outscored the Bruins 2-1 in the second, with Payton Phillips getting the Bruins' lone goal. The Warriors added two in the third.

Jaxon Kuchinka made 14 saves in the loss.

The Bruins will visit the Regina Capitals on Oct. 26.

The Estevan TS&M U15 AA Bruins went 1-1 in their latest northern trip to play Saskatoon teams.

Up first was an 11-3 loss against the Saskatoon Bandits on Saturday. Nathan Gardiner scored in the first and Ethan Rutledge had a goal in the second to leave the teams tied at 2-2, but the Bandits took over from there. Gardiner scored once more early in the third to make it a 7-3 game.

Quintin Sliva stopped 22 shots in the loss.

Estevan recovered with a 5-3 victory over the Saskatoon Generals on Sunday. Boston Tait scored to give Estevan a 1-0 lead in the first. Saskatoon scored twice in the second for a 2-1 lead, but Austin Merkley tallied to tie the game.

Rutledge, Tait and Jayden Chernoff had goals in the third for Estevan.

Brayden Clay made 28 saves to get the win in goal.

The Estevan Primec Controls Canada U13 AA Bruins lost their first league game of the season Saturday, a 7-3 decision against the Regina Blues.

Cooper Hale, Ethan Phillips and Owen Light had the goals for Estevan, who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 6-3 through two.

Joseph Hozjan and Cruz Carter split the goaltending duties.

Up next for the U13 Bruins will be their home tournament from Oct. 27-29. Games are to be played at Affinity Place and the Power Dodge Arena.
