Rocket Report: track team in Moose Jaw, badminton provincials

The track team has had a busy week with a mini meet on May 8 and an invitational meet on May 11, both in Moose Jaw.

ASSINIBOIA - The countdown is on at Assiniboia Composite High School (ACHS) with about 23 school days left until final exams. The schedule for the final exams is out and next year’s timetables are set to be released sometime in June.

The track team has had a busy week with a mini meet on May 8 and an invitational meet on May 11, both in Moose Jaw.

While in Moose Jaw, we had many students place well in multiple categories. Some of the highlights include Sheridyn Scott getting first in girls intermediate 80m hurdles, and Ava Coghill placing first in girls intermediate shot put.

In the junior category, Ella Kwasnicki placed first in the 800m run and Charlize Hillmer placed third overall in the tetrathlon junior events.

In the girls senior category, Kayley Beaubien placed first in the 3000m run and Jessica Beaubien placed fourth in the overall senior tetrathlon events.  In the boys events, Eric Helland placed third in the intermediate javelin throw and Grayson Ciocia placed fifth in boys senior high jump.

Other players include Drayden Fafard, Keagon Haug, and Drew Stenerson in boys intermediate. In girls intermediate Kaelyn Snape and Shreya Virani participated.

Over the past weekend, badminton came to an end with Ty Reid and Keaton Hillmer getting fifth at the SHSAA provincial Championships in Nipawin on May 11. The boys qualified for the event along with boys double teams from Regina’s Campbell Collegiate and Leboldus High School, Prince Albert’s St. Mary’s High School, Saskatoon’s Walter Murry Collegiate and Evan Hardy Collegiate, Rosthern, and Carrot River.

The boys lost in their last round-robin game with scores of 16-21, 21-16, and 16-21, finishing with a 2-1 record in their pool.

The drama club is feeling the pressure with only a week until the first curtain! The show will be May 23, 24, and 25. Admittance will be by donation and the whole team of students hope you will come out and see their production of Alice in Wonderland.

ACHS wished all mothers an amazing Mother’s Day this past weekend. None of the students would be able to participate in these school extracurricular activities without you and your continued support during the school year.
