Roller derby may be coming to the Weyburn area. The Southeast Saskatchewan Roller Derby Association (SESRDA) will be holding a meeting on Monday, August 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Midale Rink. This meeting will gage the interest level in potentially starting a Weyburn-area team. SESRDA members will give an introduction to the sport, rules of the game, required equipment and an introduction to some of the skaters.

Roller derby is a full-contact sport played on a flat, oval track. There are five players on each team - four blockers and a jammer. Jammers score points by passing opposing players, while blockers attempt to stop the other team's jammer and help their own jammer.Potential participants have to be 19 or older, and players of all athletic abilities are welcome. This meeting is being held to attract players, volunteers, trainers, referees and coaches. Anyone interested in trying the sport must bring a helmet.
