More or Less column: Thanksgiving and reunions

Getting together for holidays and celebrations is something I always look forward to. The gathering of loved ones seems to become more important the older I get.
Thankful Season
Whether you reunite with family for the holidays, or with classmates for a school reunion, be thankful for those relationships.

WEYBURN - With the celebration of Thanksgiving, we gathered with friends and family for feasting, fun and fellowship. I hope you enjoyed some of that this weekend.

Getting together for holidays and celebrations is something I always look forward to. The gathering of loved ones seems to become more important the older I get.

This summer, I attended a family reunion of cousins, their children and grandchildren. I’m the youngest cousin, with the majority of them being in their 70s and 80s. A few have passed on, and they were missed.

One dear aunt, long departed, saved invitations, announcements, photos and news clippings. Each of us left the reunion with an envelope of memories.

My envelope included baby photos, my birth announcement and my graduation invitation, along with other bits of information.

As I read the grad invitation, my eyes teared up. High school was a pivotal time in my life. I have many lifelong friends from school and we get together whenever possible. I’m thankful for those years and the friendships that began then.

My classmates and I have begun discussing our 40-year reunion, which will be in 2023. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since we walked across the stage and received our diplomas.

We’ve lost a couple of classmates over the years, and each time we get together, they are fondly remembered and dearly missed.

Whether you reunite with family for the holidays, or with classmates for a school reunion, be thankful for those relationships. Cherish those close to you. One day they may be gone.
