WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 74 calls for service during the period of Feb. 23 to March 3, resulting in 52 charges. Of the charges, 23 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and 27 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). Six of the charges under the Criminal Code were in relation to individuals who either failed to attend court or failed to comply with a condition of their release or a court order. Similar to the previous weeks, traffic-related infractions resulted in 27 tickets being issued under the TSA.
The Weyburn police received a report of a stolen truck on Friday afternoon. The truck, a 2002 blue Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab, had been parked behind a business off Third Street. The truck had Sask. license plate 818 MSG. If this vehicle is located or observed, please call the Weyburn police.
Police were called to an accident involving three vehicles Monday afternoon, leaving one of them un-drivable and needing to be towed. The Weyburn Fire Department and Weyburn EMS were also on scene, but those involved sustained no serious injuries.
WPS was called to a second accident where the driver lost control of their vehicle, then colliding with a parked vehicle. The vehicle that lost control was no longer drivable and was towed from the scene.
During the early morning hours of Sunday, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle that was exceeding the speed limit and drove through a red light. A traffic stop was initiated and the adult male driver displayed indicators of impairment. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was subsequently charged with impaired driving, failing to comply with a driver’s license restriction, and failing to stop at an intersection displaying a red light.
A report of a scam was received by WPS on Tuesday where an individual was contacted and asked via email for assistance with a friend that was diagnosed with cancer. The emailer asked that $300 in Apple gift cards be purchased and pictures of them sent. The complainant made some inquires and found that the email was a hoax. The individual did not suffer any financial loss.
Police were called to a motel to assist with a tenant/employee disagreement. Police were able to mediate the situation between the two parties without any further incident.
WPS was called to assist RCMP with an individual who was travelling into Weyburn on Highway 39, who they were looking for. The individual was located by a WPS member, arrested and transported to WPS for the RCMP.
