WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service responded to 102 calls for service over the past week between April 7 to April 13, resulting in a total of 23 charges. Of the charges, 10 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 11 under the Traffic Safety Act, and two under the Summary Offences Procedure Act.
The Weyburn Police Service has responded to a larger amount of calls relating to individuals struggling with mental health and emotional issues. Police would like to remind the public that if you or you know someone struggling that you can contact Weyburn Police Service who can assist with providing resources and further information. The public can also contact 8-1-1 for further support.
Throughout the week Weyburn Police Service was involved with several different community groups providing talks and education within the community groups on various Police related topics. Police also attending several different events within Weyburn to provide a positive presence within the community. The Weyburn Police Service will continue to engage with the citizens and community to ensure the safety of the public.
Several complaints were received over the past week regarding individuals entering private property and digging through garbage bins. If residents or business are having these types of issues please contact WPS for assistance.
On April 7, Police received a complaint of an unwanted guest at a residence. Police attended to the residence and through the presence of the Police the unwanted individual left on his own. There were no charges laid during this investigation.
On April 9, several storage lockers were broken into within the city of Weyburn. Police attended and seized evidence that was relevant to the investigation. The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending. Please contact Police if you have any information regarding this investigation.
On April 13, Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment building on 13th St. Through investigation it was determined that an assault occurred. A 43 year old female was arrested at the residence for assault. The female was subsequently charged with assault and released with a court date and conditions of release to ensure the victims safety.
