HK Henderson CEO speechless after winning MJBEX’s Business of the Year award

'Our team is phenomenal. They truly believe in our values. They believe in what we stand for, which is customer service. And if we didn’t have clients (who) support us every day then we wouldn’t exist.'

MOOSE JAW — Businessman Dave Reidy was almost speechless after learning that his company had been named the Business of the Year during the Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Moose Jaw Business Excellence Awards.

“Crazy. Wasn’t expecting this … wasn’t really prepared. It’s awesome,” the president/CEO of HK Henderson said after he and his team took the stage at the Temple Gardens Centre on April 16 to receive the accolade.

“Our team here in Moose Jaw, we’re growing and expanding … our footprint in Moose Jaw,” he added. “And we’re really honoured to be awarded with this and … I’m speechless.”

Reidy — whose company also won the Pillar of the Community Award — told media afterwards that many great businesses in the community were equally deserving of the award, so to be singled out was special.

Besides The Friendly City, HK Henderson — s — also does business in Saskatoon and Regina, with five offices across the province.

HK’s focus has been on the agriculture, transportation, and manufacturing industries, along with commercial construction insurance and contract surety bonding.

The merger in 2023 followed another one that occurred in .

The business is thrilled to operate in Moose Jaw since it’s “a very unique place,” Reidy said. Moose Jaw is special since residents pull together for various causes, whether to support charities, businesses, events or during crises.

“Our team is phenomenal. They truly believe in our values. They believe in what we stand for, which is customer service,” he added. “And if we didn’t have clients (who) support us every day then we wouldn’t exist.”

HK Henderson/Henderson Insurance has been in business in Moose Jaw since 1913, while the company came into the Reidy family in 1965 after Dave’s father, Frank, bought it. Then, in 1997, Dave’s two brothers and a cousin purchased the business from their parents and have been in charge ever since.

Reidy himself has been with the company for 27 years and has been the president for 20 years, and during those three decades, says the biggest change he’s seen in the industry is with technology.

Technology has changed not only how HK Henderson works but also how clients work and how fast businesses communicate with each other, he pointed out.

“One of the things that’s always there, though, that’s a staple all the way back to when my dad owned the business and then all the way through, is the people,” Reidy added. “People helping people. And that’s really what we’re all about.”
