MOOSE JAW - Gibson Energy Inc.鈥檚 board of directors has unanimously appointed Curtis Philippon as the company鈥檚 new president and chief executive officer, effective Thursday, Aug. 29.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to join Gibson as its new president and CEO. After my conversation with the board and conducting my own research, it is clear the company has a strong reputation as industry-leading in all aspects of its business,鈥 said Philippon.

鈥淚 look forward to working with this talented team as we advance this next chapter of growth and value-creation for our stakeholders.鈥

Philippon has more than 20 years of experience in the North American energy sector in various senior executive roles, including recently as the executive vice-president of Superior Plus 鈥 overseeing its Canadian Superior Propane and Superior Gas Liquids business units 鈥 and president of Centarus.

He also holds a bachelor of commerce from the University of Alberta, a CPA CMA designation, and an MBA from the University of Alberta.

As president/CEO of Centarus, Philippon successfully helped build a low-carbon energy distribution business focused on compressed natural gas, renewable natural gas and hydrogen, grew earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) by over 50 times and completed a corporate sale for proceeds in 2022 worth more than $1 billion.

鈥淲e are thrilled to welcome Curtis as the new president and chief executive officer of Gibson,鈥 said Jim Estey, board chairman.

鈥淎fter the (comprehensive) search conducted this spring, his strategic vision, strong experience and exemplary leadership skills made Curtis the ideal candidate to drive the company鈥檚 next phase of growth and development,鈥 he continued, 鈥渨hich I also had the chance to witness during my tenure as chair of Centarus.鈥

Once Philippon assumes the role, he will meet with important stakeholders and immerse himself in the company鈥檚 strategic priorities to maintain Gibson鈥檚 commitment to deliver value to shareholders and pursue the long-term strategy.

Furthermore, Philippon will have oversight of the leadership team and oversee all aspects of the company.

鈥淥n behalf of the leadership team, we look forward to working with Curtis,鈥 said Sean Brown, senior vice-president and chief financial officer. 鈥淗is complementary skillset and experience will bring fresh energy to the team as we continue to build off our solid foundation.鈥
