Biathlon Saskatchewan is hosting demonstrations at Victoria Park during I Love Regina Day.

REGINA — The Regina Police Service is notifying the public of a biathlon rifle demonstration that will be taking place today during I Love Regina Day.

Biathlon Saskatchewan is offering a biathlon demonstration during the exhibition session at Victoria Park. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

At this demonstration, participants will have the opportunity to try optical biathlon rifles. While these rifles look like genuine firearms, they do not shoot a projectile, RPS explains. Instead, they use camera technology to take a picture of the target and communicate with the user via an electronic display whether the picture taken is a “hit” or a “miss” on the target.

RPS says issuing the notice is the reassure citizens in the area that there is no need for alarm. Signage will be placed around the booth communicating to the public the equipment being used.
