REGINA - Bernadette McIntyre will be installed as Saskatchewan’s 24th Lieutenant Governor on Jan. 31, at the Legislative Assembly. She succeeds the Honorable Russ Mirasty, who has served since 2019.

Born in Bethune, McIntyre has a strong background in community service and leadership. She worked for Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) from 1980 to 2007, holding senior roles, including Assistant Vice-President of Driver and Vehicle Safety Services.

McIntyre talked with Cody and Gloria on Good Morning Saskatchewan today about her past experience on the volunteer level and what she’s looking forward to in her role.

“There’s rarely a curling rink that I haven’t been in,” she said. “So the communities of Saskatchewan are wonderful, but I haven’t been everywhere. So I’m excited to return to places I’ve been and I can’t wait to explore more places in our wonderful province of Saskatchewan.”

Later, she served as Chief Executive Officer of the Wascana Centre Authority, managing one of Canada’s largest urban parks.

McIntyre is also known for her contributions to sports and volunteerism. She was the first woman to serve as President of the Saskatchewan Curling Association and has chaired major events like the 2006 Tim Hortons Brier. In recognition of her efforts, she was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.

As Lieutenant Governor, McIntyre will act as the King’s representative in Saskatchewan, performing ceremonial duties and granting Royal Assent to provincial laws. Her appointment reflects her dedication to the province and its residents.
