PIAPOT FIRST NATION - RCMP are investigating a suspicious death on Piapot First Nation.
On Jan. 2 at approximately 8:15 a.m., Southey RCMP received a report of an injured female at a residence on Piapot First Nation.
Southey RCMP immediately responded and located a deceased adult female at the residence. She has been identified as 30-year-old Melanie Asham-Obey from Pasqua First Nation. Her family has been notified and victim services made available to them.
The female’s death is considered suspicious in nature. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation and continue to investigate.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is asking anyone with information to report it immediately to their local police by dialling 310-RCMP, or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
Investigators advise there will be an increased police presence on Piapot First Nation for an undetermined amount of time.
Police say they are unable to provide additional information about this investigation and updates will be provided when available. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, police will notify the public.
