Regina Pats' 20-year-old goalie Ewan Huet is currently playing his final season in the WHL and he will always have fond memories about playing for the Regiment.

Huet said on The SportsCage. "The organization as a whole, the staff, my teammates, they've all been great and my billets have been awesome. The guys that I live with -- billet brothers. I love my experience and it's been a fun ride."

Per WHL rules, players can play in the league until they reach their 20th birthday.

The six-foot, 184-pound Swiss goaltender was selected by the Pats with the 36th pick in the 2023 CHL Import Draft. Prior to playing with the Pats, he played for the Lausanne Hockey Club in the Under 20 Elite League. He suited up in 31 games while recording a 2.73 goals against average and two shutouts.

"I grew up dreaming of playing in Canada. Being drafted to Regina, it's been so much fun," Huet said. "The league, it's awesome. It's been a lot of fun, great places, great rinks, great fans."

Huet explained why he dreamt about playing in Canada.

"For European kids, hockey in Canada, it's a religion," Huet said. "When you think about the WHL, you think about the best junior league in the world and being able to play in it, it's awesome."

Fellow goaltender Kelton Pyne and Huet work to keep each other accountable. Pyne has been his teammate since he started with the team in 2023.

"We get along really well, Kelton's a great guy," Huet explained. "As a goaltender, you want to play more than the other. We're challenging each other, pushing each other and, I'm sure you can see it in practice, and in games, and it's been really fun all year long."

Huet is a second-generation hockey player. His dad, Cristobal Huet, played seven years in the NHL and won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

"The only memories that I have are in Chicago of his time winning the cup," Huet recalled. "The one I remember the most is Dustin Byfuglien, when they won the cup spraying champagne everywhere, putting me on the top shelf in the locker room so I wouldn't get sprayed."

Following Huet's career with the Pats, he plans to play professional hockey for the in Switzerland in the National League, where he signed a two-year contract with the team.

"I grew up watching all these guys play pro hockey back home. It's such a fun league. The fans are great and the travels are really good. I can't complain about that," Huet said. "It's always been a goal, playing pro hockey, making a living out of hockey, it's wonderful."

The Regina Pats' next game will be at home when the team takes on the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday. Dante De Caria has the call. The pre-game show starts at 6:30 p.m. with puck drop at 7 p.m. You can catch all the action on 620 CKRM.
