Veteran quarterback Jake Maier has signed a one-year contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the 2025 season, .
The Riders acquired his negotiating rights in December for an eighth-round selection in the 2025 CFL Draft. Maier became expendable in Calgary after the Stampeders acquired pivot Vernon Adams Jr. from the B.C. Lions.
Maier had previously spent his entire four-year CFL career in Calgary, playing 65 games as a Stampeder while making 45 starts. Over that time, the 27-year-old completed 72.3 percent of his passes for 11,685 yards with 60 touchdowns and 39 interceptions plus added 60 carries for 232 yards and five touchdowns.
Maier joins re-signed quarterback Trevor Harris, Jack Coan and newcomer Michael Hiers on the Riders roster entering the 2025 season.
The signing offocially reunites Maier with his former quarterback coach in Calgary and current Roughriders' offensive coordinator, Marc Mueller.
