So we spoke to Shannon Powell, owner of Battleford鈥檚 Truly U Wigs & Accessories, to get her expert advice on how to cope with hair loss.

Getting to the root of the cause

Whether it is a case of general thinning or total loss, there are many causes for hair loss in women. Genetics, stress, or medical conditions such as alopecia and debates might be to blame. Treatments such as chemotherapy can also cause hair loss in women. Finally aging plays a part, and it is estimated that around 70% of women over the age of 70 experience female-pattern baldness.

Opening up

鈥淭he biggest thing I can advise people to do is talk about it,鈥 says Powell who is a certified wig technician with more than 20 years helping cancer sufferers cope with hair loss. 鈥淎 large part of why I opened my store is that I wanted to be there to talk with people and help them find a solution to suit their specific needs and requirements.鈥

Not only will talking to someone help to find a solution, it can also help alleviate the psychological impact of the issue. After all you are certainly not alone, and sharing your thoughts and concerns about hair loss can go a long way to making you feel better.
