REGINA – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck has issued a scathing statement on the United States president, Donald Trump, after the White House said it will “help restore Russia’s access to the world market for agricultural and fertilizer exports, lower maritime insurance costs and enhance access to ports and payments systems for such transactions.”
“Despite Ukrainians dying every day in Putin’s war of aggression, Trump has agreed to help restore Russia’s access to the world market for agricultural and fertilizer exports,” said the Regina Lakeview MLA and Leader of the Opposition in a statement issued Tuesday.
“Not only is this an attack on the brave people of Ukraine, this decision, when coupled with the tariffs, could shutter potash mines and bankrupt farmers across Saskatchewan.”
She also turned to Saskatchewan’s premier with words of criticism.
“To date, Premier Scott Moe has no plan to address the tariffs and has been soft on Trump, refusing to condemn him by name.”
Beck said, “It is time for Premier Scott Moe to stand up and condemn Trump by name and in the strongest possible terms.
“Saskatchewan people are worried sick about their future. They deserve to know that their government is on the right side and fighting for them.”
