CANORA - The Canora Cobras senior hockey team hosted a Dunk Tank at the Live & Play Street Festival on Aug. 19, and judging from the enthusiastic response from local residents, this first-time event might just become a regular happening.
Members of the Cobras, along with a number of well-known local characters volunteered to take their chances in the dunk tank.
Participants had the option of throwing three balls for $5, or shelling out $20 for a guaranteed dunk. A large number of participants didn’t seem to mind the added cost for the satisfaction of knowing they were getting someone wet.
Cal Homeniuk, Cobras General Manager, said the team was approached by the town and asked “if we would do something fun for the event,” which turned into the dunk tank idea.
“The players had a blast doing it and the crowd seem to get into it too,” said Homeniuk. “It was a way for our player to reconnect with the town and get ready for the season coming up. The team made a few dollars, but the idea behind it was to connect with the community.”
Helping grow the crowd during the afternoon, Cobras PA Announcer Pat Miechkota provided the ‘play-by-play’ at the dunk tank with all the energy and excitement of an overtime thriller in the playoffs.
