CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 42 calls from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7, some of which included: one breach of peace, three Child Welfare Act calls, two disturbing the peace, one failing to comply with conditions, three false alarms, one Federal Act call, one Mental Health Act call, four mischiefs, one other provincial call, one possession of stolen property over $5,000, one sexual assault, one suspicious person, one theft of a bicycle, four traffic collisions, 14 traffic offenses, one uttering threats, one Trespass Act call, and one wellbeing check.
Main Street hit-and-run
On Aug. 30, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a hit-and-run complaint. A red truck was reported to have struck a Toyota Highlander parked on Main Street in Preeceville. The driver of the truck exited the vehicle, picked up debris, and then drove off. The driver was described as a male in his 50s. If anyone knows his identity or has information about the hit-and-run please contact the Canora/Sturgis RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
Backyard fire
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP and the Canora Fire Department were dispatched on Aug. 30 to a backyard fire in Canora. Police attended the backyard and determined the fire was small and controlled and further police involvement was not required.
RCMP vehicle hits moose
A Canora RCMP Detachment police vehicle was traveling north on Highway 9 by Crystal Lake on Aug. 31 when a moose ran across the highway from the west ditch. The police vehicle struck the moose causing extensive damage to the driver side of the vehicle. The RCMP member driving the vehicle was not injured.
Stolen truck hits house
On Sept. 1, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint in Canora that a white Dodge truck struck a fence and house, then drove away. Police located the Dodge truck abandoned a few blocks away. The Dodge truck had been reported stolen from the Kamsack area the previous night. Police continue to investigate.
Man in distress
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Sept. 4 to a complaint of a disturbance inside a residence in Canora. Police attended the address and located a male in medical distress inside the home. The male was taken to hospital by EMS.
It pays to lock your vehicle
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received multiple reports of thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles in Canora on Sept. 4. The Canora Sturgis RCMP would like to remind the public not to leave valuables inside vehicles and to lock vehicle doors.
Stop signs abused
On Sept. 5, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report that stop signs by Canora Beach were pulled out of the ground and left in the ditch. There have been numerous incidents of theft and mischief to road signs this summer in the RM of Good Lake. The removal of road signs creates a safety issue for motorists. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP is asking for public assistance for any information related to these crimes.
Drugs found in residence
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Sept. 5 to a complaint of found drugs inside a residence in Canora. Police attended and seized a small amount of methamphetamine, prescription pills, and hundreds of used needles contained in a laundry soap container.
