Representing Good Spirit School Division, Shannon Leson commended the graduates for making it through the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

CANORA- The Good Spirit School Division was represented at the Canora Composite School graduation on June 29 by Shannon Leson, who told the graduates “All your hard work has paid off.

“Graduates, parents, family and friends, and staff of Canora Composite School, it is my pleasure to bring greetings on behalf of the Good Spirit School Division Board of Education.

“Congratulations! You’ve done it! You’re graduating!” enthused Leson. “This is a huge accomplishment. Those of us sharing in this celebration today are very proud of you.

“I’m sure over the past two years, you have heard many people use the phrase ‘unprecedented times.’ Unprecedented is defined as ‘never done or known before’ – so how can this word be connected to what you have done and experienced?

“Well, you are a group of graduates who likely entered the pandemic as Grade 10 students. I’m certain that when the conclusion of your Grade 10 year was interrupted by COVID-19, many of you would not have predicted that you would spend the next two years masking, learning in cohorts, social distancing, participating in online learning during school closures, missing out on field trips and extra-curricular events. Each of you was thrown into a storm of uncertainty and loss – but here you are. You persevered. You have made it!

“Some might say you’ve beaten the odds. I would agree. I know your family and communities are incredibly proud of you. For what it matters, I am equally proud of you.

“While the diplomas you will receive today signify that you’ve completed all of the academic requirements for graduation, understand that they embody much more. Many of you have taken advantage of the wide range of art and music programs. A large number of you have participated in and excelled in athletic programs, learning the value of dedication and teamwork. All of these experiences have contributed to your overall education.

“I would encourage you to continue setting goals for yourself. Be the inspiration to the world around you. Pursue your dreams. Set high expectations, and be mindful of the people who have helped shape who you are and who you will become.

“Graduates, you truly represent GSSD’s vision of ‘Learning Without Limits….Achievement For All.” On behalf of Good Spirit School Division, I want to wish you congratulations on your graduation. I know it will be only one of the many milestones you will experience throughout your lives!”
