The Grade 4 & 5 students who make up the Outlook Elementary School鈥檚 Environmental Club decided to go out into their community and treat some local residents to a scratch-made meal last week.
On Thursday, December 13, the kids showed up to the Luther Place seniors鈥� residence to serve lunch to everyone, comprised of soup, buns, cookies and muffins, and even homemade jam, with jars of it being left with residents to enjoy themselves at home.
Teacher Donna Pearson says one of the first things that the kids wanted to do as part of the club this year was get out into the community and visit with residents, as well as give back to them by way of creating a meal.
鈥淲e鈥檝e had Environmental Club for the last few years, and this year when we got together and talked about what they wanted to do, this is what they came up with,鈥� she said.聽 鈥淲e meet after school once a week from 3:30 to 5:00, and in that time, we have to be pretty quick to get done whatever it is we鈥檙e doing.聽 We came up with this plan to cook everything, and we managed to get it done and we鈥檙e so happy to be here and serving the meal that we made.鈥�
The Environmental Club, which has 19 students, has enjoyed activities such as going on nature hikes and camping out inside the school, and now, learning how to scratch-make a meal before going over to Luther Place to treat a group of their elders can be added to the club鈥檚 growing list.
The kids even made holiday cards for the residents, wishing them a Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
