Once again district residents and visitors will be able to spend an evening rocking to the classic tunes of the 1980s while raising money for the Duck Mountain Ski Hill.
The second annual Rocking the 80s Social will be held August 1, which is the Saturday of the August long weekend.
Sponsored by the ski hill supporters, the social is being held at the Madge Lake Golf Resort under the tent, said a release from Shelley Filipchuk, a member of the ski hill board. A DJ from Absolut Class Sound from Swan River has dusted off his 1980s鈥 cassettes, eight-tracks and old vinyls.
鈥淲e will be rocking out to music by AC/DC, Guns N鈥 Roses, Metallica, Motley Cr眉e, Culture Club, Dire Straits, Bananarama, to name a few,鈥 Filipchuk said. The doors will open at 9 p.m. and stay open until 2 a.m. Persons must be 19 to attend.
鈥淭he Duck Mountain Provincial Park鈥檚 annual fireworks display will happen at dusk, and we should be able to enjoy them from our location.鈥
Last year鈥檚 event was a huge success, she said. The social was attended by 235 people with representation from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Fun was had by all from age 19 to 70 years in attendance.
鈥淢any of the songs brought back memories of their youth,鈥 she said, listing the many comments heard during the evening:
鈥淚 remembered water skiing to this song.鈥
鈥淲e graduated to this song.鈥
鈥淵ou have to do this again it was a lot of fun.鈥
鈥淪o, dust off your old 80s鈥 wardrobe and wear the clothes to the social,鈥 she said. 鈥淩emember the hair: big and mullets.鈥 Remember the TV show, Miami Vice; the big saying, 鈥淕ag me with a spoon,鈥 and in fashion were bright colours.鈥
The bar will be stocked variety of cold beverages and a late lunch will be served.
鈥淲e will be having a raffle for a large bottle of perfume,鈥 she said, adding that advance tickets are available from Sas-Kam Sportsman of Kamsack and DJ鈥檚 Mini Golf at Madge Lake, but tickets will be available at the door.
鈥淲e raised $4,500 for the ski hill at the event last year,鈥 she said. The money was used for upgrades.
鈥淭his year鈥檚 event will help replace our furnace for the lodge and update our kitchen hood.鈥
Among other upcoming events for the ski hill are: the Duck Scramble Golf Tournament on September 20, the Chicken at the Duck on September 26 and a Boxing Day Dance on December 26.
