SASKATOON – A Prince Albert man who allegedly used a dating app to lure and rob a Saskatoon man remains in custody.
Kobe Edwin Allan Favel made his fourth appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday after being arrested in November and is back in court on Dec. 21 for a show cause hearing.
Favel is accused of robbing a 36-year-old man at gunpoint whom he had met on a dating app.
The victim told police that after meeting Favel through the dating app he invited him to his home in Saskatoon. Once at his home, he told police that Favel was armed with a rifle and threatened to harm him. He received a minor injury in what was described as a scuffle and the gun went off. Favel allegedly then fled with the victim’s vehicle, bank card, phone, and contents of his gun safe.
Saskatoon Police found the victim at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 26 in the parking lot in the 1600 block of 33rd Street West. They used their Air Support Unit to locate the stolen vehicle, which they said they found attempting to hide on Grey Place. Favel was arrested without incident and was found to be in possession of MDMA and the stolen items.
Favel faces 17 charges including armed robbery, uttering threats, carry a concealed weapon, and possession of MDMA.
Saskatoon Police urge the public to use caution when using dating apps.
“If you are meeting someone; meet in a public place, meet at the location instead of accepting a ride from the person you are meeting, if you become uncomfortable, leave and, always trust your instincts,” advises the SPS.
