Saskatoon police investigate city's first homicide of 2023

Police found a body in a home in the 1200 block of Idylwyld Drive North.

SASKATOON - Update: The suspicious death investigation into the discovery of a deceased 35-year-old man at a residence in the 1200 block of Idylwyld Drive North is now being investigated as the city’s first homicide death of 2023. Police say they will not be releasing the victim’s name at this time.

Investigators with the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section have charged a 44-year-old man, previously taken into police custody, with second-degree murder. The investigation is ongoing

Original story - Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section are investigating a suspicious death Monday morning.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., Jan. 30, Saskatoon police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Idylwyld Drive North for a report of a death. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man. A 28-year-old man and a 44-year-old man inside the home were taken into custody without incident.

Members of the Major Crimes Section, Forensic Identification Unit, the Canine Unit and Patrol remain on scene. Further information will be released as the investigation continues.
