Smith Thomson followed his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps, when at the young age of 17, he joined the Canadian Navy. His family hails from Peterhead, Scotland and moved to the Winnipeg area in the 1920s.

The annual 1 2 3 Care For Me Daycare Halloween bingo, held on October 31, was deemed a huge success with over 100 in attendance, according to organizers. The event was hosted at the Sturgis Elementary School. Rhonda Olson was the caller.

Children and their parents are encouraged to participate in a free program focused on improving literacy, through crafts, music and reading.

A total of 436 people signed the Visitors’ Book at the Canora Visitors’ Centre/Station House Museum during the 2015 tourist season, Joy Stusek said in her report to the Seneca Root Association’s fall meeting in Sturgis on October 21.

The public’s assistance is requested in helping to solve a recent rash of break and enters in the Canora/Sturgis detachment areas.
