YORKTON - The raw power of the horse was once again on display at the Grain Millers Harvest Showdown.
This year 10 teams took part in the popular Dave’s Diesel Heavy Horse Pulls which were featured in the Westland Insurance Arena Wednesday and Thursday.
The big horses getting into the traces and pulling thousands of pounds is a long time highlight of Harvest Showdown in Yorkton.
The teamsters and their teams, all members of the Qu’Appelle Valley Horse Pulling Club competed in three categories; lightweights with teams under 3200 pounds combined weight, medium weights teams under 3500 pounds and heavyweights.
The winners were determined based on a combined two-day weight and distance pulled formula.
Melville’s Wayne Nagy took his team to the best pull in the lightweight division.
Veteran puller Ron Sebastien of Lumsden won both the medium and heavy weight divisions.
