MELVILLE - It might not have seemed like disc golf weather Sunday, but for 15 hardy golfers they signed up for the Melville Space Race Event.
“It was pretty gratifying to see participants from Regina, Moosomin, Fort Qu’Appelle, Watrous, out on a rather chilly day,” offered Trevor Lyons, event coordinator with the Parkland Association of Disc Golf.
“We have held Halloween season events before, but this one was colder than most.”
The event was one where participants received two MVP discs as part of the entry fee, and were required to play the two rounds using only those two discs.
There was also a different scoring system with disc golfers awarded one point for a metal hit, three for a chain out, and five for a hole-in-one.
In the end it was Regina’s Arlen Nickel who edged out a win having accumulated 76 points over two rounds, the first in daylight, the second after dark.
Melville’s Nolan Schlechter was second garnering 75 points, while Matthew Verhoog of Fort Qu’Appelle was third with 73 points.
