You know the drill by now; it鈥檚 the mixed bag of opinions and views from yours truly.
Last week, Fox News took actress Jamie Lee Curtis to task because her character uses guns in the new 鈥楬alloween鈥 movie, despite Curtis being an advocate for gun control in real life.聽 If we鈥檙e going to use that hugely flawed and idiotic logic, then I seem to remember seeing Donald Trump helping a kid who鈥檇 been separated from his parents in 鈥楬ome Alone 2: Lost in New York鈥, but we all know how that situation played out in real life, don鈥檛 we?
ABC fired Roseanne earlier this year after she made a racist comment on Twitter and canceled her insanely-popular sitcom that had been brought back to TV.聽 The network then brought back everyone else in the cast to produce a spin-off, and it was revealed that Roseanne鈥檚 character had been killed off.聽 Apparently 鈥 I haven鈥檛 watched the episode yet 鈥 Roseanne dies due to an opioid overdose.聽 So let me get this straight; ABC not only insanely overreacts by firing her and killing her off on a spin-off show, but they also feel the need to rub proverbial salt in the wound and virtually flip off both Roseanne and long-time fans by having her go out as a drug addict?聽 And then turn around and plead with TV audiences to tune in every week to keep those network coffers filled?聽 Hollywood鈥檚 a cold and weird place, man.
The fireworks at LCBI in Outlook last weekend to cap the school鈥檚 annual Homecoming event were awesome, and with the musical soundtrack that was in-sync with the pyrotechnics, it felt like a rock concert, but the only thing missing was, well, a band.聽 If this reporter gig were to come to an abrupt end one day, I could definitely see myself with a future business card that reads, 鈥楪uy Who Blows Things Up and Gets Paid for It.鈥
You know how movie studios like to promote certain releases as an 鈥渆vent film鈥, and people get excited about them as far back as maybe a full year ahead of their release?聽 Like 鈥楤eauty and The Beast鈥, 鈥楢laddin鈥 or the latest Marvel comic book flick?聽 That鈥檚 鈥楬alloween鈥 for me, which is released on Friday and I鈥檓 tentatively planning on seeing it with a buddy who is equally pumped.聽 Yes, I just said that watching a mute mass murderer escape custody to wreak more bloody havoc is something I鈥檓 looking forward to, like a kid on Christmas morning.聽 Michael Myers is MY Santa Claus.
I was really impressed with the tour I got of the new swimming pool facility in Outlook a couple of weeks ago, and the long, winding road full of twists and turns to this project鈥檚 near-completion is something that shouldn鈥檛 go unnoticed.聽 It鈥檚 incredible that this is something that has been in the works for five years now, dating all the way back to a meeting held in November 2013 that dealt with the 鈥渃ritical condition鈥 of the existing pool in the regional park.聽 I鈥檝e seen the ups and downs that have come with the new pool; the day trip over to Foam Lake in July 2014 to check out their about-to-open facility, which filled everyone鈥檚 heads with all sorts of possibilities; the live auction fundraiser event in the spring of 2015 that was something of a mixed bag in itself, depending on who you talked to; as well as the endless list of other fundraising efforts, big and small, that have gotten the new pool to where it is today.聽 When this thing opens next spring, this town has every right to be proud because it鈥檚 something that all started from a seed of an idea and grew into a facility that will stand the test of time.
Have you ever eaten at the golf course restaurant down in Elbow?聽 If not, do it.聽 In fact, do it on a Sunday night when they serve a buffet.聽 Delicious food with a great view, and I鈥檓 kicking myself for only having discovered it this past summer.
It鈥檚 fantastic that some of the guys on the Outlook Fire Department received the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal from the Lieutenant Governor.聽 It was even cooler to see that the guys made a special stop at Ross Derdall鈥檚 home to hand-deliver his medal to him.聽 The banquet that the community held for the department back in June is a memory still fresh in my mind and a key event that stands out in Outlook鈥檚 recent history.聽 Congrats again to all of you!
Until the next time I have a bunch of things to get off my chest, the mixed bag is empty, at least for now.
For this week, that鈥檚 been the Ruttle Report.
