YORKTON — Rocanville musician, Lachlan Neville, is scheduled to perform at Yorkton's Parlour Barber Shop Jan. 11.

Â鶹´«Ã½ caught up with Neville ahead of the performance to learn a little about the local musician.

"I've just been playing shows all over Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta over the last year," said Neville.

Neville said he'll be performing an acoustic set featuring original material with a sprinkle of harmonica and possibly a cover or two. This show is part of what he expects to be a busy year of touring throughout 2025.

"Blake Berglund and I ... we made a record last February out in Alberta. That's coming out this February so we're promoting that record," said Neville.

Neville said his musical journey began at an early age, influenced heavily by his musical family and particularly his father.

"I started piano lessons when I was five," Neville recalled, "my family was pretty musical — my dad especially — he had a huge influence on me musically."

Neville fondly remembers the moments spent in his dad's Jeep, listening to Canadian folk icon Ian Tyson.

"Music has just always been a part of my life. I started writing songs three or four years ago now," said Neville, adding, "first and foremost I consider myself to be a songwriter. I try to have a strong song."

Drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Prine and Guy Clark, Neville seeks to create music that resonates with his audience. He expressed particular admiration for Springsteen's "Darkness On the Edge of Town," citing "Racing in the Street" as one of his favorite tracks.

"I think that's a masterclass in record-making and sequencing as well — all of the songs just flow perfectly ... I love the gritty vibe of that record," said Neville. "There's a lot of Springsteen tunes I love — definitely."

As he prepares for his performance at Parlour Barber Shop, Neville reflected on his creative process.

"I just write whatever comes to me," said Neville.

With a new record set to release in February, available on all streaming platforms, and his music currently previewable on YouTube, Neville continues to adapt to the changing landscape of the music industry.

"I would not be writing if it weren't for streaming ... to have all music ever just at your fingertips ... is pretty amazing," he said.

As for his future plans, Neville is fully committed to his musical path.

"There is no plan A or plan B — this is just the plan."

Lachlan Neville will play at Parlour Barber Shop Jan. 11 at 7:00 PM. To preview some of Neville's music, visit his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@lachlanneville7138 ).
