YORKTON – A local pharmacy owner is the recipient of the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association's 2024 Indigenous Women's Business of the Year Award.
Melody Kelts, Founder and Owner of Sage Pharmacy, was recognized at the Indigenous Prosperity Forum May 8-9 in Gatineu, Que.
In November of last year Kelts was the recipient of the Sask Indigenous Enterprise Foundation’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. SIEF would go on to nominate Kelts for the the NACCA award.
Kelts told SASKTODAY.ca the news was overwhelming and wasn't something on her radar.
"I just want to provide the best care and service and this is just an added bonus — being recognized for it," said Kelts.
Born in Alberta and raised in Yorkton since she was just a year old, Kelts has deep roots in the community. Her First Nation heritage traces back to Ontario, Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, where her father grew up and lived.
Kelts said her journey began at the University of Saskatchewan, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Since 2011, she has been a practicing pharmacist, honing her skills and expanding her knowledge.
Sage Pharmacy provides regular prescriptions and pharmaceutical services as well as a unique service known as compounding. This process involves creating prescriptions from raw ingredients into the required dosage forms, including liquids, topicals, suppositories, capsules and even lollipops.
