YORKTON - The SJHL’s Sherwood Divisions front-running Weyburn Red Wings rolled into the Westland Insurance Arena Saturday and showed the host Terriers why they were top of the division heap.
The Wings took the lead early – a goal by Cyprus Smith-Davis 1:24 in, and they stayed ahead the rest of the way.
Jaron Desnoyers did knot things 1-1 at 5:08, but a goal with only 54-seconds in the frame by Josh Karman edged the Wings ahead.
The middle stanza was largely Weyburn’s as Braigh LeGrandeur on the powerplay and Drew Molde scored 39-seconds appoint to make it 4-1.
Tyler Palin responded with a Terrier goal to give the home fans hope, but that hope was quickly dashed as Jaxson Ruthven scored two to make it 6-2.
The Terriers managed a third period goal by Harrison Aldridge but lost the game 6-3.
Angelo Zol was in net for Weyburn facing 23 shots for the win.
Callum Creig faced 13 shots allowing four goals as the Terrier starter. He was relieved by Ethan Farrow who gave up two goals on 13 shots.
With the win Weyburn remains atop the Viterra with 52-points.
Yorkton’s record drops to 23-14-1-0 and second with 47-points.
Melville sits third with 43-points, with Estevan fourth with 31-points.
The Terriers play next Friday hosting Notre Dame, before heading to Estevan Sunday, Feb. 2.
