YORKTON - Yorkton Councillor Dustin Brears was appointed to the SUMA Cities Caucus at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
“The City of Yorkton must ensure representation of our City’s interests, and participation by appointing a member of the Council on the SUMA Cities Caucus to participate,” Jessica Matsalla, City Clerk with the city explained.
The caucus is part of a change in how the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association will be governed.
“At the 2024 AGM the SUMA membership voted to adopt a new governance structure with the intent to make the organization “more nimble” and give members greater participation in advocacy. Upon adoption at the close of the SUMA Convention this year, the new Board of Directors will consist of seven members, down from the previous 18,” said Matsalla.
The new Board will oversee general governance of SUMA.
“The new model will be based on sectoral caucuses, responsible to determine and advance their specific advocacy priorities,” said Matsalla.
Each caucus will elect a chair, which becomes the representative on the SUMA Board of Directors.
