SASKATOON – An alleged drug trafficker arrested in a high-risk traffic stop was a no show for his scheduled appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday. Judge Marilyn Penner issued a bench warrant for 27-year-old Dakota Junior Aubichon’s arrest.

The Crown requested the warrant telling the court that Aubichon had been given “more than enough chances to attend court and has defied orders to be present,” adding, “I think it’s time now for a bench warrant.”

The court didn’t vacate Aubichon’s Oct. 30 and 31 trial dates on four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime, and several weapons-related offences.

“All we can hope is he will get picked up between now and then and those court dates can be used,” said the Crown.

Judge Penner told the Crown and defence to follow up about six weeks before the October trial and vacate the trial if Aubichon hasn’t been arrested on warrant.

Aubichon was granted bail following his arrest by the Saskatoon Police Crime Reduction Team and Tactical Support Unit. They had stopped Aubichon in a high-risk traffic stop in the 200 block of Fairmont Drive in October 2022 and seized methamphetamine, cocaine, and cash.

After the traffic stop, police got a search warrant for a home in the 1900 block of 22nd Street West and seized ammunition, additional methamphetamine and cocaine, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
