REGINA – The man accused in the 2006 murder of Misha Pavelick returned to court this morning.
Back on Aug. 21, the 34-year-old accused - whose name is protected as the alleged offence occurred when he was 17 - wanted a two-month adjournment to seek counsel. That was after more than a month had passed using the same reason, to pursue either Legal Aid or a private lawyer.
The accused is the only suspect Pavelick’s murder, which happened during a party with 100-plus attendees on May 21, 2006 at Kinookimow Beach on Last Mountain Lake. Pavelick was stabbed to death that night, and for almost two decades no leads were forthcoming in the case.
RCMP made their arrest on June 24, charging the man with second degree murder, but he was released after an initial court appearance two days later.
The accused did manage to obtain a Legal Aid lawyer, and Judge Doug Kovatch agreed to adjourn the matter to Oct. 19.
