SASKATCHEWAN – Since the start of this year, 1,816 traffic tickets have been issued by Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) for violations at intersections.

Of those, CTSS laid 1,289 charges for drivers running stop signs, 208 for failing to stop at an intersection with a red light, 99 charges for making a U-turn at an intersection controlled by traffic lights, 37 charges for failing to drive cautiously through an intersection with an amber light, 29 charges for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left, and 24 charges of proceeding from a stop before it was safe to do so.

Are you approaching intersections safely?

CTSS reminds motorists to:

-Drop those rolling stops: make a full stop at red lights and stop signs, even when turning right;

-Use the Right of Way rule at four-way stops – always yield to the vehicle on your right;

-Give the right signal: indicate when you are going to make a turn and ensure it’s safe before you do so;

-Yellow doesn’t mean speed up: if a traffic light is yellow, slow down and prepare to stop; and

-Be prepared for the unexpected: always be on the look-out for other vehicles, pedestrians, changing lights, slippery roads and other road hazards.

For more information:

CTSS consists of officers from Saskatchewan RCMP and municipal police agencies.
