Over 40 charges for Regina duo in stolen property investigation

Police nab pair after chase, execute search warrants.

REGINA – A Regina pair are facing over 40 charges after an investigation by police.

It all began with a traffic stop by RPS on Feb. 8 on two suspect vehicles on Leaven Drive. Both drivers fled from police, and officers discovered one of the vehicles in an alley on the 800 block of Robinson Street.

“Police located a female suspect and a male suspect inside a garage,” said RPS in a media release. “When the male was approached by police, he got into a vehicle parked in the garage, reversed through the garage door, and drove into the alley at a high rate of speed. The female suspect was taken into police custody without incident.”

Search warrants were executed on a home in the 800 block of Robinson Street, and a storage locker in the 2700 block of Sandra Schmirler Way.

“During the searches, police recovered two stolen vehicles, multiple firearms and stolen items believed to have come from several break and enters in the Regina area,” RPS said.

A day later, the male suspect that fled police was picked up by the Moose Jaw Police Service. He was driving a stolen vehicle with a stolen license plate.

Matthew Maurice Kostiuk, 33, was charged with six counts fail to comply with condition of a release order; five counts possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; three counts each break, enter, and commit, possession of break-in instruments; two counts each possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft under $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device/ammunition in a motor vehicle; and single counts possession of property obtained by crime for purposes of trafficking, theft of motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a weapon, flight from peace officer, operate conveyance dangerous to the public, and resist arrest.

Kostiuk made his first appearance on these charges in court on Feb. 17.

Police also charged Chantal Dawn Krahenbil, 37, with three counts each fail to comply with probation order, fail to comply with condition of a release order; two counts break, enter, and commit; and single counts flight from peace officer, operate conveyance dangerous to the public, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Krahenbil made her first appearance not here charges in court on Feb. 9.
