PRINCE ALBERT – A man has been arrested after a Prince Albert police vehicle was rammed as a suspect tried fleeing from police.

On Oct. 23, just before 4 p.m., members of the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) Criminal Investigation Division observed a stolen SUV in an alley in the 1500 Block of McIntosh Drive. Earlier in the day, officers had tried stopping the stolen SUV but the driver fled from police to evade being arrested.

Once police again located the stolen SUV, it was contained by two unmarked police vehicles. When investigators identified themselves as police officers to the single male occupant and advised him that he was under arrest, he attempted to flee and drove into the police vehicles, causing damage.

Marked Patrol units arrived on scene and assisted with the arrest. During the incident a window was broken on the stolen SUV and OC Spray was deployed to gain control of the suspect.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with assaulting a police officer, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, criminal negligence, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failing to stop for police and numerous breach of court ordered conditions, including not to be in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle.

He also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest which included flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, criminal negligence, resisting arrest, assault police officer and breach of court ordered conditions.

He made his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Oct. 24.
