PRINCE ALBERT – A 41-year-old Sturgeon Lake man, Wesley Naytowhow, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Phillip Okemow. Naytowhow appears in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Nov. 3.
On Nov. 1, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert detachment, Prince Albert and Saskatoon Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Teams (WEST), Police Dog Services and Critical Incident Response Program, Okemow was arrested at a home on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Naytowhow was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Prince Albert RCMP for possession of stolen property over $5,000 and failing to appear in court.
Okemow’s body was found at about 10: 20 a.m. on Aug. 22, after Prince Albert RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive man on MacIntosh Point in Emma Lake, which is about 45 kilometres north of Prince Albert.
