Update: On Feb. 12, inmate Nigel Ferster was apprehended by the Rosthern Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The Correctional Service of Canada is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Original story: The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and police are searching for escaped inmate 28-year-old Nigel Ferster who left Willow Cree Healing Lodge on Feb. 11.
During the 5 p.m. count, staff members at Willow Cree Healing Lodge, a minimum-security federal institution, discovered that Ricky Black and Nigel Ferster weren’t accounted for. They notified Rosthern RCMP and a warrant for the inmates' arrest was issued.
Ricky Black was apprehended by Rosthern RCMP the same day in Duck Lake.
Ferster is still at large.
He is about 5-foot-5 and 270 pounds. He has a fair complexion, hazel eyes and black hair.
Ferster is serving a sentence of two years and 14 days for break and enter with intent, flight from peace officer, dangerous driving, and possession of break in instruments.
Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Ferster is asked to contact the police.
CSC will investigate the circumstances of this incident and is working with the police to locate Ferster.
