MELFORT – Update, Thursday, July 27: Keenan Crawford Head was located by police on James Smith Cree Nation Thursday afternoon and arrested without incident. RCMP will provide more information as it becomes available.

Original report, Wednesday, July 26: Melfort RCMP and Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) are asking the public's help locating 34-year-old Keenan Crawford Head, from James Smith Cree Nation, in relation to the stolen vehicle incident on Tuesday.

At this stage of the investigation, police say Head was believed to be the only person in the vehicle. They located and recovered the stolen black Cadillac Escalade SUV Tuesday at about 3:30 p.m. It was abandoned in a rural area on James Smith Cree Nation and didn’t contain firearms. The SUV has been towed and secured for further investigation.

On Tuesday morning, RCMP had asked the public to report sightings of a black 2012 Cadillac Escalade SUV with Saskatchewan license plate 190 MVF saying the suspect who stole the vehicle may be armed and dangerous.

During the search for the vehicle, Melfort RCMP conducted proactive patrols on James Smith Cree Nation and surrounding communities. Melfort RCMP initially recommended a hold-and-secure to the community as a precaution, which has since been lifted. Officers continued to provide regular updates to the leadership on James Smith Cree Nation as the investigation progressed.

Head is currently wanted for failing to comply with a release order, which was issued by PAPS.

Head is approximately 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police consider Head to be armed and dangerous. If he is seen, do not approach, and report this sighting to police immediately by calling 911 or your local police.

Melfort RCMP continues to conduct proactive patrols throughout the James Smith Cree Nation and surrounding communities, and are following-up on information provided to them. Melfort RCMP thanks the James Smith Cree Nation security for their assistance in this investigation and continued partnership.

Tisdale RCMP along with the Melfort RCMP Combined Traffic Services Section also assisted with the investigation.

If you have any information about this incident, contact Melfort RCMP at 306-752-6420. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or .
