MEADOW LAKE – RCMP used a drone to track a vehicle that kept evading them in the Meadow Lake detachment area.
Officers had tried stopping a pick-up truck several times but the alleged driver, Antoine Hamm, 28, from Waterhen Lake First Nation, fled from police each time.
Meadow Lake RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services worked together and located the truck on Waterhen Lake First Nation on Feb. 1. They then used a remote piloted aircraft to track its movements and when they observed the vehicle stopping, they moved quickly to block it in so it couldn’t drive away. The driver of the truck repeatedly rammed an RCMP Police Dog Services vehicle trying to escape. No injuries were reported.
Inside the truck, police found four firearms, one loaded, about 170 grams of cocaine and 28 grams of methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and a sum of cash.
Hamm was arrested and charged with careless transport of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, flight from police, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer with intent to resist arrest, possession of the proceeds of crime, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Hamm appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Feb. 12. The Crown is opposed to Hamm’s release and he was remanded in custody and is scheduled back in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Feb. 23 by CCTV for a bail hearing.
