REGINA – More details have emerged into yesterday's operation by the RPS Explosives Disposal Team near a school.
Around 10:20 a.m., police received a call from someone using a play structure near St. Michael Community School.
"The caller stated there was a suspicious item on the ground under a bench," RPS said in a media release.
When police arrived, they confirmed finding an "item of concern," and advised the public to avoid the 400 block of Hamilton Street while the EDU team did their work.
Around 2 p.m., investigators concluded their operation, safely disposing of the strange package.
"The item was assembled to look like an explosive device however, investigation revealed it was not," RPS said. "This appears to be an act of public mischief."
So far, police have no suspects related to this incident, and are asking the public to come forward with any information that might help as the investigation continues.
"Anyone with information that may assist in this investigation is has asked to contact the Regina Police Service at (306) 777-6500 or Regina Crime Stoppers at or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)," RPS said.
