Regina man faces multiple charges after daring armed robbery

Police find guns and drugs among items during investigation.

REGINA – An early morning armed robbery on Feb. 23 has one Regina man facing a slew of charges.

Just before 4:30 a.m., police were sent to the 800 block of Grey Street after a call about an armed robbery that had taken place.

“Early information suggested a male was sitting inside his parked vehicle on Grey Street, when two suspect males exited a nearby vehicle, entered the victim’s vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim,” said RPS in a media release. “One of the males then drove off in the victim’s vehicle and the other male drove off in the suspect vehicle.”

When officers arrived, they found the victim had not been physically hurt, despite the daring incident. The victim’s vehicle was discovered abandoned on Grey Street where police found a loaded firearm inside.

“Additional officers located the suspect vehicle driving in the area and attempted a traffic stop; the driver of the vehicle evaded police at a high-rate of speed,” RPS said.

Members of the Canine Unit later found the suspect vehicle abandoned in an alley on the 2200 block of Border Street, and the team located the suspect hiding in a yard nearby on Edgar Street.

“A Police Service Dog bit the male suspect and he was taken into police custody,” RPS said. “The male was transported to hospital by EMS and was treated for his injuries.”

During their investigation, police found another firearm, drugs, items associated with drug trafficking, and body armour.

Michael John Yewman, 28, of Regina was charged with two counts each possession of a substance for purposes of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm/ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; and single counts armed robbery with a restricted/prohibited firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a loaded/restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, flight from police, impaired operation of a conveyance, operate conveyance dangerous to the public, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and fail to comply with conditions

Yewman made his first court appearance on these charges on Feb. 23.
