Sask. man accused of killing woman, trying to kill child, pleads not guilty

In Prince Albert Provincial Court on Aug. 21, Thanh Nguyen pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

PRINCE ALBERT – A 46-year-old man accused of killing a woman and trying to kill a female youth pleaded not guilty on Aug. 21 in Prince Albert Provincial Court. A preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial has been scheduled for Feb. 12, 2024.

Thanh Nguyen has been in custody since he was arrested May 2022 and charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. He was arrested at a home in the 1100 block of 2nd Street East. Police had been called to a home in the 1100 block of 2nd Street East at about 3:30 a.m. for an unknown 911 call. When police arrived, they found a 35-year-old woman deceased and a female youth injured. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening-injuries. Police say the man was known to the victims.
