Update: Saskatoon police deal with homicides three weekends in a row

Officers responded to homicides in Saskatoon's west end on Feb. 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 19th.

SASKATOON – Update: Saskatoon police were dealing with the city’s fourth homicide on Feb. 19.

At about 1:51 p.m. on Monday, patrol officers responded to report of a male being stabbed on the 200 block of 20th Street West. The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived.

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died a short while later.

Investigators with the Major Crime, Serious Assault Unit and Forensic Identification Sections continue to investigate.

Original story:  Saskatoon Police Service’s Major Crime Section is investigating the city’s third homicide of 2024. This marks the third consecutive weekend police find themselves investigating a homicide.

On Feb. 17, at about 12:25 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of an injured person in a home on the 200 block of Avenue I South. Once at the scene, officers found a 48-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital but died shortly after.

Police say the victim and suspect were known to each other and they aren’t releasing his name yet.

On Feb. 10, a 48-year-old man was shot and killed at a home on the 200 block of Avenue K North. A 21-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder and four firearms-related offences. Saskatoon police didn’t release the victim’s name and say the victim and the accused were known to each other.

On Feb. 3, Saskatoon police found the body of a 25-year-old man from Alberta inside a home in the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue. A 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were each charged with first-degree murder in his death. Police didn’t release the victim’s name at his family’s request.
