Teen receives mental health assessment after police taser Incident

Attempts at de-escalating the situation were unsuccessful.

Saskatoon Police Service say a 14-year-old girl was attempting to harm herself with a knife.

SASKATOON – Police say they were forced to use a Tazer on a 14-year-old girl who was attempting to harm herself with a knife. Attempts at de-escalating the situation had been unsuccessful.

The incident occurred in the 400 block of Witney Avenue South at about 1 p.m. on March 25, according to police. 

An officer used the conducted energy weapon. The teen, however, was medically cleared at the scene by Medavie Health Services and then taken to hospital by police for a mental health assessment.

This incident will be reviewed in accordance with SPS Policy.
