LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – Weapons and violence-related charges have been stayed against 31-year-old Jason Krysta in Lloydminster Provincial Court May 11.
When the Crown stays charges, they put the charges on hold. This means the charges can still be "brought back to life," within one year and the person could be prosecuted again on those same charges. But this rarely happens.
Krysta was charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, break and enter to a home with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of threats to cause death, two counts of theft of a cell phone from two separate people with threats to use violence, theft of keys with threat to use violence, mischief by damaging a door, and failing to comply with a release order not to carry or have weapons except work tools while used at a job site, or utensils used while preparing or eating food.
Krysta still faces charges out of Red Deer, Alta., from January 2022, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September. Those charges include robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to an order, disobeying a court order, and failing to comply with conditions.
