WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service received 91 calls for service during the week of May 15-21, resulting in a total of 15 charges. Of the charges, nine were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, five under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the City of Weyburn bylaws.
During the week, the Weyburn Police Service received reports of break and enters to various storage units within the city. These matters are still under investigation. Police are reminding citizens to report any suspicious activity.
Police also received several complaints of theft that occurred at various local businesses. An adult female has been charged in relation to two of these incidents, while charges are pending further investigation in relation to the other reported incidents.
The Weyburn Police Service conducted a high visibility traffic enforcement project on May 19. A total of 70 vehicles were checked for driver sobriety and other traffic safety aspects including valid vehicle registration and driver’s license. One adult male was issued a three-day driver’s license suspension after testing positive for THC (cannabis).
Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on East Avenue on Saturday. As a result of the investigation, a breath demand was made on one of the involved drivers who was ultimately charged with operating a vehicle over the legal limit for blood-alcohol content. A female passenger in a second vehicle was treated on scene and transported by EMS to the Weyburn General Hospital with minor injuries.
The Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
